Fausto Coppi has undoubtedly captured the hearts of fans around the world, as the undisputed king of cycling. Born of humble beginnings in Castellania, near Alessandria in the province of Piemont, the 15th day of September 1918, his skills were unsurpassed as he won virtually every major race from 1939 to 1958.
Thirty one years later, in a small town of Abruzzi, overlooking the Adriatic Coast, Fausto Di Berardino was born. Named after the legendary cyclist by his father, he emigrated to Canada in 1969, and he maintained the love for the Italian traditions and the passion for food. Inspired by natural and simple methods of "Abruzzese" cuisine, Fausto’s dream came true in 1991 when he opened the doors on the "Mighty Yonge Street". Never adventurous but simple, never complicated but easy to comprehend, never too many spices, but one or two per dish, Coppi Ristorante paved its way to popularity with this simple formula.
Stylish and young staff in a clean and happy environment has made Coppi unique and famous. Family gatherings, romantic evenings or corporate functions are constantly supervised and orchestrated by Fausto himself and his long time manager Alessandro Scotto.
Fausto Di Berardino along with his loyal staff believe that a restaurant must bring in new ideas without compromising the original philosophy of the kitchen and most of all without bastardizing its particular style. Coppi’s menu is the reflection of this strict method. All dishes are ancient and original, nothing has been taken away or added, and at the same time Coppi is steadily searching for those ingredients that in the past, restaurant goers could only have enjoyed by flying overseas.
For example:
Baby Peaches in Truffle Oil; Buffalo Cheese Mozzarella; Bottarga or Muggine (Tuna or Red Mullets Roe); Fresh Porcini Mushrooms; An array of Fish from the Adriatic Coast; White Truffles (November only); Black Truffles (Spring and Summer only); Cherry Tomatoes from Pachino Sicily; Prosciutto from Parma; Pasta Cav. Cocco (Rated one of the best pastas in the world); Saffron from Aquila, Abruzzi; Parmigiano Reggiano
In a continuing effort to bring to our customer’s tables the most unique and intriguing ingredients, while they are at their freshest stage, we want to wish you, your family, your friends and associates, Buon Appetito!!
